A Safe and Sustainable Substitute for Petroleum
Diesel
Biodiesel is a non-toxic alternative fuel
for diesel engines. Biodiesel produces no net CO2 during
combustion. Biodiesel is a sustainable and secure substitute
for petroleum diesel that can be produced from domestically-sourced
raw materials Biodiesel may be used inter-changeably
with petroleum diesel, or in any blend ratio.
Biodiesel is sold using a prefix of “B”,
followed by a number (e.g. B99). The number represents
the content of biodiesel. Fuel sold as B99 means that
there is a 99% biodiesel content, with one percent petroleum
diesel content. The most common biodiesel blends are
B2, B5, B20, B50, and B99.
Automakers and engine manufacturers have recognized
the increased use of biodiesel. Companies including,
Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, New Holland, International,
John Deere, Volkswagen, and Mercedes Benz endorse the
use of biodiesel in their products.
